  • Position Summary

    The Human Resource/Benefits Specialist works closely with the Senior Vice President/Human Resources and Human Resource Specialist/Benefits Administrator in the development, coordination, and execution of Human Resources and employee benefits within the University of Iowa Community Credit Union.  This includes, but is not limited to, a wide variety of human resource functions such as:  compliance, benefits administration, staffing, coaching, training, and researching. Ideal candidates will be precise, independent, take charge leaders who put a premium on accuracy, follow up on details and complete projects on time.

     

    Pay Range: $22.70-$34.05

    Essential Duties and Responsibilities

    Performs essential duties and responsibilities in the following areas which may include, but are not limited to those listed, and are subject to change.

     

    1. Adheres to the Credit Union's core values in serving with truth, trust, mentoring, openness, risk-taking, communication, giving credit, integrity, caring and respect in carrying out the UICCU's mission and vision.
    2. Demonstrates a positive member service (internal and external) focus at all times, greeting members and guests with a smile and eye contact immediately upon their arrival, using their name or acknowledging them, and thanking them for their business.
    3. Demonstrates teamwork in all interactions with coworkers and in the completion of all duties and responsibilities.
    4. Ensures confidentiality of member information.
    5. Plays a vital role in enriching the community by participating in community service organizations and/or credit union sponsored events, on an annual basis.

     

    Compliance

    1. Ensures compliance with all State and Federal legal regulations concerning employment and benefits. Assists in the proper, accurate and timely completion of regulatory reporting associated with required regulations.
    2. Recommends policies and procedures to Sr. VP/HR and HR Specialist/Benefits Administrator to ensure that the UICCU operates within the legal framework of government legislation.

     

    Benefits

    1. Assists in the administration and implementation of human resources benefits programs.
    2. Identifies, recommends, develops and implements programs and processes supporting business objectives and organizational culture.
    3. Researches and works with third party vendors to develop new benefit programs and/or human resource processes.
    4. Advises employees on eligibility, coverage and other benefits matters.

     

    Staffing

    1. Coordinates recruitment efforts.
    2. Conducts employment interviews and counsels managers on final hiring decisions. 
    3. Coordinates and completes all procedures related to selecting qualified candidates for job openings.
    4. Monitors staff performance evaluation program and makes recommendations for revisions as needed.
    5. Conducts exit interviews and processes staff termination paperwork.
    6. Responsible for implementation and upkeep of the UICCU’s HRIS; compiles reports from database as needed.
    7. Maintains confidential personnel records.
    8. Reports monthly staffing statistical information.

     

    Coaching and Training

    1. Engages in positive partnership and staffing relations by providing coaching, training and guidance on UICCU policies and procedures, best practices, compliance, etc..
    2. Facilitates timely resolution of employee relations issues maintaining an appropriate balance between employees and management advocacy.  Investigates and resolves employee issues in a timely and caring manner.
    3. Develops and/or delivers Human Resources and benefits training to new and existing staff, as needed.
    4. Provides career-path guidance to staff.
    5. Coordinates and administers various Credit Union educational programs.
    6. Assists in the coordination of staff meetings, training topics, and special events.

     

    Researching

    1. Assists in evaluation of reports, decisions, and results of department in relation to established goals, as needed.  Recommends new approaches, policies and procedures to effect continual improvements in efficiency of department.
    2. Researches and works with third party vendors to develop new programs and/or human resource and payroll processes.

    Job Requirements/Expectations

    1. Bachelor’s Degree in Human Resource Management, Business, or related field; or equivalent coursework.
    2. One to three years of Human Resource experience in a generalist role with basic experience and understanding in benefits administration.
    3. Knowledge of state and federal benefit and employment laws, regulations and statues.
    4. Reports to work punctually, works all scheduled hours, and works overtime as necessitated by business demand. 
    5. Proficiency in a wide variety of personal computer software programs, including the Microsoft Office application suite, Microsoft Publisher, clipart and graphics software, and desktop publishing programs.
    6. A strong working knowledge of local area network directories, protocol and general maintenance procedures.
    7. High scanning accuracy with extreme attention to detail.
    8. Strong analytical skills with excellent verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills.
    9. Ability to coordinate and prioritize large, detailed project requirements and schedules.
    10. Strong organizational skills in order to manage multiple priorities, meet deadlines, and work efficiently in a time sensitive environment.
    11. Self directed nature, ability to work independent of supervision, and ability to follow directions.
    12. Ability to work well with others in a demanding work schedule.
    13. Ability to research, develop and create new programs.
    14. Maturity and discretion to handle confidential information.
    15. Must be bondable.

    Reporting Relationship

    Reports to the Senior Vice President/Human Resources.

    Supervisory Responsibilities

    This position is not responsible for the supervision of other employees.
